Let’s be real here: we all love to hate and hate to love Taylor Swift. I probably lean more towards the hate to love side, but you get my point. Her new song, called Shake It Off, is one obviously written for those who love to hate her. That same song, though, fits into the stereotype that every sorority girl gets put into. Hear me out…
It starts out with these two lines:
I stay out too late,
Got nothing in my brain
If that’s not your everyday stereotype for sorority girls, then I don’t know what is. The song continues, though, to say:
That’s what people say, mhm
That’s what people say
As in yes, people say these things, but it doesn’t mean they’re true. She goes on in typical TSwift fashion to address other problems people have with her, but my favorite part has to be her chorus:
But the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
But baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake it off, shake it off
That’s the goal. To shake things off. To get over them. To move on. To realize that there will always be people that disapprove, dislike, and dishearten us, but they’re not important. What’s important is that you get back up, and you tackle your next task, especially while fighting the stereotype surrounding you. So shake it off, land on your feet, and show the world what you’re made of!
